Final ELNG Assignment

I am trying to remember all the details that were asked for this final entry and so hopefully I can remember all of them or this will be updated shortly!!!

 1. Best ELNG Assignment entry – I thought that this was one of my best entries of the semester. I am not really sure why but for some reason I really enjoyed doing this activity and it made me think about what it meant to be a writer and all the words that describe and go along with becoming a writer. Its important to remember this because you need to be able to foster good writing skills in all of our students and make sure that they to become more comfortable with the writing process and acknowledging themselves as writers.

2. Growth over the semester: Entry 1 and Entry 2 – When I look at these two entries and compare them from two different times in the semester I see how I have grown and become more confident as a writer. I guess it helps to hear positive feed back about my writing styles and expressing myself through this blog. I have noticed that I am more comfortable and even a bit eager to write and be able to express myself. Though writing research papers can be a tad bit dull at times, I have that I am not so worried about how they will turn out. I think that over the semester I have been able to grow as a writer and become more confident with my techniques and style. This has made school work more interesting because I do not dread writing papers and seeing them come back full of marks but more as an opportunity to reflect and build upon the knowledge that I have gained from my free writing opportunities.

Well its nearly the long weekend! Thank goodness! I am so excited because I get to have a few days off to just sit down and relax. I have been so crazy busy trying to get all my homework done so that I will not have that much to do on the weekend! Alot of my homework has been centered around writing papers which is no fun!

For my long weekend I am going to spend it in Moose Jaw visiting my family. It will be nice to see everyone cause I don’t get to go there as often as I would like because of school and work. I am pretty excited to see everyone while I am there to!

Not much has been going on in my life, just school and work. Both are very time consuming and very tiring some days. I am curious about the Lion’s Quest Training Program that I get to do tommorow. The only down fall that I see to it, is that it will be and 8 hour seminar… That is a little bit of a long afternoon and evening for me. Hopefully it will all go well and I will learn some interesting things about how to deal with bullying that I can apply in the classroom.

I should head back to my homework though!

Later days!

ELNG Assignment

So I have been slowly working at away at my story book these days. It has been a little tricky trying to figure out what to write about that may be interesting enough for someone to read. I have been thinking about doing an ABC book from the list of ideas that I have brainstormed about. The only trick that I am having at the moment is to think of 26 different things about me that would go with each letter. Many of the letters are easy to come up with a particular word about someone I know or something I have done or liked. The problem I am having is coming up with something for lettes such as Z and X and O, just to name a few. I have been brainstorming and asking family and friends for any ideas. I have got a few and now just need pictures to go along with each of these letters. Its funny how when you do an activity like this, a lot of memories come back because each letter repersents some place I have been or a friend or family member and even my pets. Hopefully my book will turn out well!

So its a new week and I believe I may be a bit behind on my journal writing I am not really sure. So tonight I went and saw Riverdance with my kids krew girls group. All I have to say was that it was the most amazing show ever and I highly enjoyed it. I have always been kind of curious but have never gotten the chance to go and actually see it. So when the opportunity came up I took it and am glad I did. Also the group of girls that I took (who are aged 10-14) were amazed by the show also. The dancers did such a great job and the effort that it must take just to learn the dance sequnce was tremendous! This was a great experience for me and espically for the kids because they got to experience seeing the show to and are more keen on how much effort and how long it took for the dancers to train.

It’s READING WEEK! Hurray! This week makes me so happy every winter semester because its one whole glorious week off of school! Most people like to head away to somewhere nice and hot and relax. I on the other hand choose to stay in Regina and work… I am the most exciting person ever! HAHA! Its been an alright reading week so far for me, I have been pretty busy with work and volunteer events (I finish up my hours for my project today!). Nothing all that exciting has happened to me sadly! Also I should probably finish up some of my homework assignments that are sitting on my floor staring up at me but that has absolutely no appeal to me today! I better go and get ready!

ELNG Assignment

So I have been working on gathering a lot of different types of writing for my writers notebook and had a really good time sharing them with my friends at my table. With each item that each of us showed it lead to a discussion about similar stories that we could all relate to.

So here are my answers to the questions about writers notebook.

1. I have a collected a fair amount of stuff already which makes me really happy. I have a folder in my room which I add things to from time to time. It has gotten to be very full and looking like there is a lot of stuff to go through!

2. I think the things that I need to make my writers notebook better or progress that I need to take to make it better is taking the time to sort everything out into different types of writing because right now its kind of scary to look at the huge mess of a file folder I have in front of me!

3. My collection that I have going on right now in my writers notebook is a mixture of many things. I have lots of photographs but also cards and pictures that have been made by hand for me from children that I have worked with. Also I have placed in letters that have impacted me and handouts about what it means to be a teacher. Each of these things influences me in a different way. When I look at the pictures that were made for me I began to think of all the different adventures and times that I spent with all of these different children. Also when I look at the ticket stubs or the teaching handouts that I have done I remember why I have chosen to stick to this degree through school.

So its a snowy and cold day out there and I absolutely need a break from studying! I am happily curled up at home with my hairy little pup (who’s happily snoring at the foot of my bed) and I was thinking about the different genre’s of writing and how a lot of books I have been reading actually fit into those types! So I thought I would write about a few of them in here. = )

1. Princess Diaries: Yes I actually do own a few of these books from back when I was younger. These are interesting books because it is set up in the form of journal entries. These are great books for young girls because the main character goes through some similar issues of getting through high school on a day to day basis.

2. The Boy Next Door: I absolutely love this book because the entire book is based on emails exchanged between the characters as it unfolds into a murder mystery plot! Its an excellant read on a snowy day like this!

3. The Boy Friend List (13 boys, 4 ceramic frogs and me, Ruby Oliver): This book is actually set up in the form of a personal biography (which also includes commentary footnotes by the main character). This is a great book that young girls can relate to because of the main character Ruby Oliver dealing with losing and gaining friends and even boyfriends.

4. The Boy Book: This is the sequel to the Boyfriend List and is set up in the same format and with many of the same characters. This book continues on through Ruby’s life and the lessons that she learns along the way.

5. Target Underwear and a Vera Wang Gown: This is another personal narrative book about the author who describes all the important events in her life and how fashion has influenced each one of them. This book is absolutely hilarious to read and the reader can relate to the author through many different scenerio’s.

6. Feeling Sorry For Celia: This is one of my all time favorite books to read! The entire story is made up of letters between two girls who’s classes are to become pen pals. Also through out the book there are letters from different imaginary societys (ie. Cold Hard Truth Association, Highschool Runners- who would only be good if they trained regularly association and even the Association of Teenagers) which repersent the main character Elisabeth’s thoughts as she deals with developing new friendships and figuring out old ones. Also included are notes from Elisabeths mother left on the fridge door reminding her about different things.

7. The Year of Secret Assignments- This is by the same author and does have a brief appearance by Elisabeth in the book. This story is set up similarly to Feeling Sorry for Celia except that there are additions of diary entries and writer’s notebook entries along with the pen pal letters. This is another great book for younger readers because there is a easy connection formed between the reader and the plot line.
