My thoughts on technology…

While sitting here in the computer lab I started to think about how technology affects people in so many different ways. I know all through out elementary and high school everyone spent endless amounts of time writing things off the board or the over head and that would kill at least a good hour of class. Now in university, many people still hand write out notes during lectures but then there are a few (i.e. ME) who loves to use my lap top to take notes. For me personally its so much more easier to keep track of where my notes are and my day to day life. I am one of the most disorganized people in the world and so when I have a huge stack of papers from 5 different classes, I have trouble sorting them out.  So for me technology makes my life so much easier and my life not so hectic. Some people would argue against this, saying that its an easy reason for people to slack off and not pay attention. So there are a few people who do watch movies and play on msn during lectures which kind of doesn’t make sense about the movies cause if you really wanted to watch a movie why don’t you do that at home instead of sitting in a room with a 100 people who want to smack you for watching a movie during class. I have never done something like that but I am bad for playing free cell if the lecture gets boring or we are watching a not very interesting movie.

Just my thoughts of the day!

The week…

My week has started off alright… Today is going to be my longest day. I have two classes that are 2 hours long and then an hour class in between those two… EPSYC is intersting and its nice to get a 15 minute break to rest from what would be a very long lecture. My weekend was pretty quiet. I spent saturday and sunday working, which was alright except for the 6:45am shift of going out to the golf course. Saturday night was fun though cause I went the Casino with Jason (my bf) and my sister Ci Ci. There was a comedy night going on so it was a fun excuse to dress up a lil and get some drinks. The one comic was on the last comic standing and she is on this show called video on trial on much music. So it was good. The best thing she said was that everyone should drink out of martini glasses all the time because it always makes life seem more like a party. School has been ok but now I am starting to get more assignments and more papers that I should start working on. I have a major term paper for history which I am going to do the witch trials in England and why women were harassed the most.

But thats all for now!

This week…

This week has been going alright for me. For ECMP 355 I have learned about some things on the internet that I haven’t learned before which was interesting. In my other classes I receive my ESL tutoring info  for  ELNG which is going to be fun because I have tutored ESL students in the past and enjoyed it.

Work has been going o.k. It is going to be another very long weekend because I have to work at 2 rinks on Sunday and I am not completely sure where the second rink is. Its kind of nice only having to work about 1 1/2 to 2 hours at the most. The only down part is that I am still at the golf course and that means 6:30 in the morning wake up calls to drive across the city and sit by myself until people come. Its always slow in the mornings and I never really see that many people.

Evolution of Dance

My all time favorite youtube video just because its so true how dance and music has evolved.

Description: I just turned 20 this past July and celebrated it with my best friends. Currently I work for the city of Regina as a cashier. Mostly this summer I worked at Massey Pool, Regent Pool and also at the Par 3 golf course. Regent pool was slightly scary to work at because the area wasn’t the nicest but it was all good. For the winter term I am going to be working some of the indoor rinks in Regina as a way to make extra cash for school.

I have been going to the U of R for three years now and am glad to be in the education program. I graduated from Campbell Collegiate in 2005. I really didn’t understand why all of the schools were so excited to call us the Centenial class cause it didn’t really make any sense to me. My older sisters graduating class was the millenium class and she says that it felt the same way.

As for my family I live at home with my mom, dad and older sister. We have one dog, she is a shih tzu but mostly we just call her the fur ball. I have an extremely large extended family my moms side all live in Moose Jaw and I spent a large amount of time there visiting with them. She has 4 brothers and 1 sister, also I see my granny while I am there. My dads side of the family is a bit smaller and more spread out. They live in Calgary, Medicine Hat and London Ontario.

My family

This is all my cousins (myself and sister to), significant others and thier children! There is a lot of us!

I have always been interested in technology and my dad is always showing me new progarams that come out. I usually use my lap top for school work, surfing the internet and talking to friends and family.

I think that the use of computers in classrooms is great because it expands the opportunity to learn about new cultures and things that textbooks don’t have information about. Also it can teach to look at multiple opinions at once and learn how to distinguish fact from fiction. Things like facebook and you tube allow for people to have more contact with each other and get to know more people across the world. I like these because it gives me the opportunity to see new cultures and learn about different things and also find new and old friends.

I think that this class will be informitive and fun for me. I am interested in learning how to bring computers into the classroom and give people new knowledge about things they may not know.
